Health, venture capital, and innovation
Welcome to Rethinking Health. My name is Ben Williamson and I’m a venture capitalist, recovering corporate attorney, co-founder of a health and fitness facility, an eternal knowledge seeker with a growth mindset, and a connoisseur of all-things health. Like many others, I never thought to write anything myself – not in the public domain anyways – out of fear of perceived ineptitude or even just because there is plenty of content from smarter, more experienced voices. But perhaps the area of health actually does not have enough of those voices yet in it (or more likely, I’ve simply had too much time sitting and thinking during COVID). Most likely its because I just subscribe to the notion (explained fantastically by Alex Danco and David Perell @37:01 in this podcast) that writing about what you are interested in and doing so in the public sphere is massively beneficial for a number of reasons – the most interesting of which is it really forces you to think more deeply about your ideas.
Rethinking Health is my mission to discuss health, venture capital, innovation, and start-ups within the context of redefining and pursuing preventative population health. Maybe this post and those that follow will be interesting. Maybe they will merely serve as an exercise in brevity for me (and thus, an homage to my old legal writing professor Cyndi Lamm who was the first to finally tell me I was actually full of shit). Regardless, my goal will be to take a layperson’s and very light-hearted analysis of the most interesting health companies, science, innovations, and trends as we move into the 2020s –which very well could be the single most transformative ten-year period with respect to preventative population health since discovery of antibiotics or the vaccine. This “newsletter” will always be FREE AF especially since there is absolutely no certainty with respect to whether it will provide any defined value or be delivered with any regularity (the two necessary prongs for a legitimate subscription service according to Ben Thompson). Please let me know your thoughts!
(What little attorney is left in me compels me to say I’m not a health professional and nothing I talk about should ever be construed as health advice; Additionally, these opinions are completely my own — unless you like them, they can be yours too — and don’t reflect those of Invest Nebraska or my other colleagues; If you don’t enjoy occasional swearing and unfiltered opinions challenging the status quo, this likely isn’t for you.)
In the meantime, tell your friends!
